Port Stephens Pickleball Club Inc was delighted to welcome Member of Parliament Kate Washington to Tomaree Netball Courts on the morning of Thursday 11 June 2026 for a special Skills & Drills session. Members turned out in wonderful numbers to greet their MP, and the morning delivered everything the club had hoped for — energy, warmth, great pickleball, and a genuine connection between an elected representative and the community she serves.

Kate didn't just observe — she got out on the courts, picked up a paddle, and gave the game a real go. By her own admission the scoring was a little tricky, but on the court she was a natural, getting into some impressive rallies and thoroughly enjoying the experience. Reflecting on the morning, Kate described it as "a wonderful way to start the day," noting that pickleball is "a heap of fun" and praising the club for "keeping locals active and connected." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

The morning was made even more special by a wonderful group of friends who joined us on the courts. Kate Vorias, Level 2 coach and owner of Newcastle pickleball specialist Picklelodian, brought a fantastic range of clothing and paddles for members to browse and try. A demo pack generously sent by Tony Morgan of mypickleball.com.au gave players the chance to test some great gear on the day. And Scott and the team from Nelson Bay Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Centre — valued club sponsors — came along, got on the courts, and had a ball of their own. 💛

Port Stephens Pickleball Club Inc now looks forward to welcoming Kate back at a future session. With 220 members, nine weekly sessions, and a community that grows stronger every week, there will be plenty more mornings like this one to come. As Kate said so perfectly — we are proud to be keeping Port Stephens active and connected, one game at a time.
