Port Stephens Pickleball Club and ATP (Around the Ponds) Pickleball Club, based around the Kellyville area of Sydney, have celebrated the success of their inaugural Interclub Challenge, which brought together more than 100 players for a memorable day of competition, friendship and fun.

Held on Sunday 30 August at the Tomaree Netball Courts, the event featured mixed-gender teams competing across Intermediate, Advanced and Elite divisions. The format gave players of varying skill levels the chance to represent their club, test their abilities and enjoy the excitement of team competition.

Both clubs arrived determined to claim the inaugural trophy, creating a lively, competitive atmosphere throughout the day. Players fought hard for every point, producing entertaining rallies and closely contested matches across all divisions.

At the conclusion of the competition, ATP Pickleball Club emerged victorious, securing the inaugural Interclub Challenge trophy and the honour of being the first club to have its name recorded on it.

Despite the competitive edge, the event kept the friendly, welcoming spirit pickleball is known for. Players encouraged one another, shared plenty of laughs, and formed new friendships both on and off the court.

"The event demonstrated exactly what pickleball is all about — friendly competition, enjoyment and a strong sense of community," said John Grace, President of Port Stephens Pickleball Club. "It was fantastic to see more than 100 players come together to represent their clubs and support one another. The enthusiasm, sportsmanship and positive atmosphere throughout the day made the event a tremendous success."

Scott Fisk, President of ATP Pickleball Club, said both clubs were eager to make history as the first winners of the Interclub Challenge. "There was certainly a competitive edge, with both clubs keen to take home the inaugural trophy, but the sportsmanship and friendship shown between the players were the real highlights of the day," Mr Fisk said. "Events such as this give players an opportunity to challenge themselves while also bringing the wider pickleball community together."

Once the official competition and trophy presentation wrapped up, the rivalry was set aside as players from both clubs joined together in mixed social teams for a relaxed afternoon of pickleball — a fitting end to the day that further strengthened the connection between the two clubs.

Port Stephens Pickleball Club thanks all players, organisers and volunteers from both clubs who gave their time and enthusiasm to make the inaugural event such a success — from coordinating teams and preparing the courts to managing matches and supporting players throughout the day.

The inaugural Interclub Challenge was an important step in strengthening the relationship between the Port Stephens and ATP pickleball communities, while celebrating the continued growth and popularity of the sport. Following the overwhelmingly positive response from players, both clubs hope the Interclub Challenge will become a regular fixture on the regional pickleball calendar for years to come.
